Improving our live music venue

If you know anything about the team behind Blackwattle Bar + Brewery, you will know we are passionate about many things - the beer, our cocktails, our community, hospitality as an offering and live music.

We have a stage, we have some lights and we have ambition, but until now we haven't really known how to move our live music program forward. A key part of that is to improve our venue. To this end we were able to secure a grant to undertake engage expert consultants to review our venue and propose improvements that will allow us to become a truly high class live music venue. This project at Blackwattle Bar + Brewery is proudly funded by the NSW Government through Sound NSW.

Sound NSW and NSW Government

The project goals were to assess the current venue and identify improvements to acoustic treatment, soundproofing and sound equipment that would significantly improve the quality of the acoustics within the venue. The consultancy also looked to reduce sound leakage to reduce impact to the local community.

This project was made possible by the support of NSW Government through Sound NSW. The project was wonderfully supported by the staff at Sound NSW.

Offbeat Collective

Drew Bisset is a leading sound engineer in the Sydney community. Having worked at Sydney Opera House on the Symphony Hall Renovation and on multiple well know music venues, he led the project to assess the current situation and to propose updates. With a focus on sound equipment, Drew has primarily looked at implementing a sound system that will both deliver excellent quality for our performers whilst also helping to consider the directionality of the sound generated to reduce imact to our local community.

AKA Acoustics

Daniel Natoli has industry leading knowledge in assessing venues delivering programs of work to create high performing performance spaces.

Daniel undertook extensive testing of the internal reverberation and external leakage of sound. He created 3D models of the venue to be able to test different acoustic panels, acoustic treatments and soundproofing treaments.

Check back later and we'll share the findings of this work with you!
